Q. What is Haiti Mission in Motion?
A. Haiti Mission in Motion is run / walk fundraising event that’s open to individuals of every age and ability. It consists of an adult 5K walk / run and a children’s 1K run / walk.
Q. Who is organizing the Haiti Mission in Motion?
A. Haiti Mission in Motion is being organized by a team of dedicated volunteers from New Beginning Baptist Fellowship Church (NBBFC) in Mississauga.
Garfield Peters is the race director and has lived in Mississauga for the past 30 years. An avid runner who promotes an active lifestyle for community members and, who has a genuine concern for the plight of people in Haiti is what makes him enthusiastic about this great cause.
Roxanne Richardson has lived in Mississauga for the past 33 years and lends her project management expertise for planning a successful event. A trip to Haiti with NBBFC in January 2010 shortly after the earthquake drives her commitment and desire to organizing this annual fundraising event.
Since 2004, NBBFC has organized medical / mission relief trips to Haiti comprised of teams of doctors, nurses and general volunteers. This event is testament to NBBFC’s ongoing commitment to Haiti.
Q. How will the Haiti Mission in Motion help Haiti?
A. Net proceeds from the Haiti Mission ion Motion run / walk event will go directly to NBBFC’s upcoming medical / mission relief trip. Volunteers pay their own airfare and accommodations in Haiti ensuring net proceeds go towards purchasing water filtration systems, medicine and medical supplies.
Q. How will individual pledges and donations be used?
A. All individual pledges and donations collected for the 2010 Haiti Mission in Motion run walk event will go directly to NBBFC’s upcoming medical mission relief trip. Volunteers pay their own airfare and accommodation in Haiti ensuring that net proceeds go towards purchasing water filtration systems, medicine, and medical supplies.
Q. How will the race registration and sponsorship fees be used?
A. All race registration and sponsorship fees will be used to underwrite the cost of running the event. Haiti Mission in Motion is a non-profit event; all surplus fees will be forwarded to New Beginning Baptist Fellowship Church in support of their efforts to assist Haitian men, women and children in need.
Q. Where will the event take place?
A. Haiti Mission in Motion will take place in Erindale Park: 1695 Dundas Street West, Mississauga (just east of Erin Mills Parkway). The races will occur along the Culham Trail running through picnic areas C & D.
Q. Why a run/walk?
A. Staging a running / walking event is a great way to draw a community together by getting involved in a fun, healthy and meaningful event. Between runners/walkers, volunteers, and spectators the event will draw many people together to promote a healthy lifestyle while supporting a great cause.
Q. How can people get involved?
A. We have opportunities for everyone to be involved.
Register / Fundraise: Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced runner / walker … a child or young at heart, register for the adult 5K or children’s 1K events. Encourage friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you for your participation in this event. Volunteer: We have a variety of pre and race day volunteer opportunities which are posted on our website. This event needs the whole community behind it to be truly successful.
Become a Corporate Sponsor: We’re looking to partner with local businesses to raise funds to execute this event. Haiti Mission in Motion is a great opportunity, to support a great cause, give to the community and promote your business.
Pledge an Athlete: runners / walkers will put a lot of time and effort into preparing for race day. Show them your support by making an online or offline pledge. Charitable tax receipt will be provided for pledges of $20 or more.
